{"id":38,"date":"2012-05-25T17:44:19","date_gmt":"2012-05-25T17:44:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wnyretina.com\/wordpress\/?page_id=38"},"modified":"2012-05-25T17:58:35","modified_gmt":"2012-05-25T17:58:35","slug":"careers","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wnyretina.com\/wordpress\/?page_id=38","title":{"rendered":"Careers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Various Career opportunities are available here at Retina Consultants of\u00a0 Western New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As we have positions available we will post the details here.<\/p>\n<p>Currently we are taking applications for the following:<\/p>\n<p>Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist<\/p>\n<p><strong>JOB TASKS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Initiate documentation of the patient\u2019s chief complaint, history of present illness,<\/p>\n<p>review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with<\/p>\n<p>compliance guidelines.\u00a0 Perform testing to include visual acuity measurement, color<\/p>\n<p>vision testing, lensometry, keratometry, testing pupil function, tonometry<\/p>\n<p>confrontation visual fields, evaluations of EOM\u2019s and all other patient services as<\/p>\n<p>requested by the ophthalmologist. Administer topical ophthalmic and oral medications<\/p>\n<p>at the direction of physician.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Triage patient telephone calls.<\/p>\n<p>3. Assist with minor surgery procedures or laser treatments in the office.\u00a0 If necessary,<\/p>\n<p>assist physician with surgical procedures to include: patient preparation, draping of<\/p>\n<p>surgical site, instrumentation and maintenance of sterile technique. Inventory and<\/p>\n<p>maintain surgical instruments in accordance with OSHA standards. Remove and apply<\/p>\n<p>dressings as directed.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 Perform retinoscopy and refractometry.\u00a0 Assist patients with low vision aids.\u00a0 Assist<\/p>\n<p>with fitting of contact lenses and instruct patients in care and insertion of lenses.<\/p>\n<p>Assist with accurately measuring optics of eyeglasses and assisting patient with<\/p>\n<p>selection and fitting of eyeglasses, if applicable.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0 Demonstrate knowledge of JCAHPO standards, assist with training clinical staff to a<\/p>\n<p>positive outcome, and provide hands-on training to ophthalmic medical personnel as<\/p>\n<p>needed.\u00a0 Educate patients regarding administration of medications, and pre- and post-<\/p>\n<p>operative instructions as directed by physician.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0 Perform specialized testing such as automated and non-automated perimetry,<\/p>\n<p>advanced ocular motility testing, IOL calculations, ultrasonography, ophthalmic<\/p>\n<p>photography, fluorescein angiograph and advanced color vision testing.\u00a0 Prepare<\/p>\n<p>specimens for culture and staining. Complete required documentation for specimen<\/p>\n<p>submission.<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0 Assist physician in directing daily patient flow. Calibrate and maintain office<\/p>\n<p>equipment in accordance with policies and standards. Troubleshoot ophthalmic<\/p>\n<p>equipment problems and initiate repairs.<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Follow all safety procedures as per protocol guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>9.\u00a0\u00a0 Work on clinical research projects.<\/p>\n<p>10. Provide clinical staff evaluation and disciplinary action documentation to supervisor<\/p>\n<p>and \/ or physician as needed, upon request.<\/p>\n<p>11.\u00a0 Perform other related duties as assigned under guidance of supervisor.<\/p>\n<p>12. Educate patients regarding administration of medications, and pre-and post-operative<\/p>\n<p>instructions as directed by physician.\u00a0 Complete requests for prescription refills as<\/p>\n<p>authorized by physician with full documentation in patient chart.<\/p>\n<p>13. Perform specialized testing such as automated and non-automated perimetry, ocular<\/p>\n<p>motility testing, ultrasonography, B-scan and ophthalmic photography.<\/p>\n<p>14. Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring that equipment is cleaned and disinfected<\/p>\n<p>in an appropriate manner, battery powered instruments are seated properly in<\/p>\n<p>recharge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off and under covers.\u00a0 Assist<\/p>\n<p>with maintenance of clinical examination equipment.\u00a0 Assist with ordering of<\/p>\n<p>supplies.<\/p>\n<p>15. Scribe for the physician.<\/p>\n<p>16. Inventory and maintain medications and medical supplies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 New technicians are to be successfully trained in 9 months, and pass the exam<\/p>\n<p>within 12 months of the date of hire.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Effectively and efficiently screen patients within a 20 minutes time frame.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Procedure logs are to be reconciled on a daily basis.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 All encounters and chart notes are to be completed and signed off on by the<\/p>\n<p>physician at the end of the clinic day.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ensure all letters to referring physicians are sent by the next clinic day.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ensure that exam rooms and trays are prepared for the next clinic day.<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Receive certifications or work to next level certification.<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Work towards being crossed trained in all areas as a technician.<\/p>\n<p>9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Awareness of the operation and maintenance of equipment utilized.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS TO BE REVIEWED<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Effective and efficient screening of patients.
