Currently we are taking applications for the following:<\/p>\n

Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist<\/p>\n

JOB TASKS:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 Initiate documentation of the patient\u2019s chief complaint, history of present illness,<\/p>\n

review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with<\/p>\n

compliance guidelines.\u00a0 Perform testing to include visual acuity measurement, color<\/p>\n

vision testing, lensometry, keratometry, testing pupil function, tonometry<\/p>\n

confrontation visual fields, evaluations of EOM\u2019s and all other patient services as<\/p>\n

requested by the ophthalmologist. Administer topical ophthalmic and oral medications<\/p>\n

at the direction of physician.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 Triage patient telephone calls.<\/p>\n

3. Assist with minor surgery procedures or laser treatments in the office.\u00a0 If necessary,<\/p>\n

assist physician with surgical procedures to include: patient preparation, draping of<\/p>\n

surgical site, instrumentation and maintenance of sterile technique. Inventory and<\/p>\n

maintain surgical instruments in accordance with OSHA standards. Remove and apply<\/p>\n

dressings as directed.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Perform retinoscopy and refractometry.\u00a0 Assist patients with low vision aids.\u00a0 Assist<\/p>\n

with fitting of contact lenses and instruct patients in care and insertion of lenses.<\/p>\n

Assist with accurately measuring optics of eyeglasses and assisting patient with<\/p>\n

selection and fitting of eyeglasses, if applicable.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Demonstrate knowledge of JCAHPO standards, assist with training clinical staff to a<\/p>\n

positive outcome, and provide hands-on training to ophthalmic medical personnel as<\/p>\n

needed.\u00a0 Educate patients regarding administration of medications, and pre- and post-<\/p>\n

operative instructions as directed by physician.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Perform specialized testing such as automated and non-automated perimetry,<\/p>\n

advanced ocular motility testing, IOL calculations, ultrasonography, ophthalmic<\/p>\n

photography, fluorescein angiograph and advanced color vision testing.\u00a0 Prepare<\/p>\n

specimens for culture and staining. Complete required documentation for specimen<\/p>\n

submission.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0 Assist physician in directing daily patient flow. Calibrate and maintain office<\/p>\n

equipment in accordance with policies and standards. Troubleshoot ophthalmic<\/p>\n

equipment problems and initiate repairs.<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Follow all safety procedures as per protocol guidelines.<\/p>\n

9.\u00a0\u00a0 Work on clinical research projects.<\/p>\n

10. Provide clinical staff evaluation and disciplinary action documentation to supervisor<\/p>\n

and \/ or physician as needed, upon request.<\/p>\n

11.\u00a0 Perform other related duties as assigned under guidance of supervisor.<\/p>\n

12. Educate patients regarding administration of medications, and pre-and post-operative<\/p>\n

instructions as directed by physician.\u00a0 Complete requests for prescription refills as<\/p>\n

authorized by physician with full documentation in patient chart.<\/p>\n

13. Perform specialized testing such as automated and non-automated perimetry, ocular<\/p>\n

motility testing, ultrasonography, B-scan and ophthalmic photography.<\/p>\n

14. Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring that equipment is cleaned and disinfected<\/p>\n

in an appropriate manner, battery powered instruments are seated properly in<\/p>\n

recharge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off and under covers.\u00a0 Assist<\/p>\n

with maintenance of clinical examination equipment.\u00a0 Assist with ordering of<\/p>\n

supplies.<\/p>\n

15. Scribe for the physician.<\/p>\n

16. Inventory and maintain medications and medical supplies.<\/p>\n

KEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 New technicians are to be successfully trained in 9 months, and pass the exam<\/p>\n

within 12 months of the date of hire.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Effectively and efficiently screen patients within a 20 minutes time frame.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Procedure logs are to be reconciled on a daily basis.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 All encounters and chart notes are to be completed and signed off on by the<\/p>\n

physician at the end of the clinic day.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ensure all letters to referring physicians are sent by the next clinic day.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ensure that exam rooms and trays are prepared for the next clinic day.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Receive certifications or work to next level certification.<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Work towards being crossed trained in all areas as a technician.<\/p>\n

9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Awareness of the operation and maintenance of equipment utilized.<\/p>\n

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS TO BE REVIEWED<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Effective and efficient screening of patients. Follows the same script when screening<\/p>\n

manually as in EMR, obtains all required medical data in concise and complete<\/p>\n

manner.\u00a0 Completes process in a timely manner beginning with patients arrival time.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Assists physicians with procedures.\u00a0 Prepare room and tray for procedures.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Performs OCT\u2019s and FA\u2019s.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Accurate and detailed patient chart notes and reports.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Performs as a scribe in an accurate and quality manner.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Completes drafts or changes to documentation in an accurate manner.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Completes required procedure logs timely and accurately.<\/p>\n

8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Reviews encounter forms with physician to ensure accurate billing.<\/p>\n

9.\u00a0\u00a0 Performs end of day close procedure to account for all key equipment.<\/p>\n

10.\u00a0\u00a0 Ensure equipment is in good working order or notifies key personnel if not.<\/p>\n

11.\u00a0\u00a0 Cleans all rooms at end of day and prepare for next day.<\/p>\n

12.\u00a0\u00a0 Stock all rooms and order required supplies.<\/p>\n

13.\u00a0\u00a0 Able to perform all procedures regardless of equipment or location.<\/p>\n

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS TO BE REVIEWED<\/strong><\/p>\n

14.\u00a0\u00a0 Assist or train staff on equipment in a timely and quality manner.<\/p>\n

15.\u00a0 \u00a0Able to communicate information with the patient in a clear and sensitive manner.<\/p>\n

16.\u00a0 \u00a0Educating patients through use of office brochures and pamphlets.<\/p>\n

17.\u00a0\u00a0 Treats all patients with dignity, respect and a pleasant attitude.<\/p>\n

18.\u00a0 \u00a0Consistency in patient care.<\/p>\n

19.\u00a0 \u00a0Compliance with HIPAA regulations.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

JOB REQUIREMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Education and Experience:<\/strong>\u00a0 A business degree or equivalent, knowledge of account, data and administrative management practices and procedures, knowledge of clerical practices and procedures, knowledge of human resources management practices and procedures, knowledge of business and management principles, computer skills and knowledge of office software packages.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Knowledge, skills and experience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Outstanding interpersonal skills, as well as, neat and professional appearance mandatory.\u00a0 Excellent communication skills and ability to analyze and assess problems.\u00a0 Other key competencies:\u00a0 Decision making, planning and organizing, work and time management, attention to detail and high level of accuracy, delegation of authority and responsibility, information gathering and monitoring, coaching skills, initiative, integrity, stress tolerance, adaptability, teamwork and collaboration.<\/p>\n

Degree of supervision (i.e., direct, indirect):<\/strong>\u00a0 Position requires a great deal of initiative and the flexibility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.\u00a0 Employee must be extremely discreet to maintain confidentiality.\u00a0 Given the level of training and experience required in this position, the employee will be expected to work well independently with minimal supervision.\u00a0 The employee has responsibility for independently planning, designing and carrying out projects and assignments.<\/p>\n
